Get an Eye and Visual Field Exam

An eye exam provides a comprehensive assessment of your vision and eye health. By paying close attention to changes in your eyes, the exam helps improve your vision and protect it over the long term. The recommended frequency of eye exams depends on your age, general health and specific visual needs. Consult an eye care professional whenever you experience changes or difficulties with your vision.

At Centre Visuel D.R., we have transformed this routine assessment into a pleasant experience for the entire family. Our clinics offer free Wi-Fi and are conveniently accessible.

Recommended Eye Exam Frequency

Children

Eye exams are recommended at approximately six months of age, at three years old and before starting kindergarten. School-age children and teenagers should generally have their eyes examined annually. Eye exams are covered by the Québec Health Insurance Plan for children and teenagers under the age of 18. Ideally, an exam should be scheduled before the beginning of the school year.

More frequent visits may be required if a child shows signs of significant vision problems.

Through the Better Sight for Success program, the RAMQ provides a fixed reimbursement of $300 every two years toward the purchase of prescription glasses or contact lenses for eligible children under the age of 18 with a valid Québec health insurance card.

Adults

Adults between the ages of 18 and 64 should generally undergo an eye exam every one or two years, depending on their optometrist’s recommendation. More frequent exams may be recommended for people with diabetes, contact lens wearers or individuals with hereditary risk factors such as glaucoma.

Some private insurance plans cover eye examination fees.

Seniors

Beginning at age 65, an annual eye exam is strongly recommended. More frequent monitoring may be recommended for people with diabetes, contact lens wearers or individuals with hereditary risk factors such as glaucoma.
